Constantine Michalopoulos has worked on and written about economic development and poverty eradication for more than half a century. Most recently (2019) he was appointed Senior Policy Adviser at ELIAMEP, (Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy), a think tank in his native Athens. Between 2012 and 2019 he was Visiting Scholar and Adjunct Professor of Economics at the School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University in Washington DC.  Earlier in his career, Michalopoulos served as a senior official at the World Bank (1982-2001) and the US Agency for International Development (1969-1982). He also taught economics at several US universities and served as a development advisor to governments and international organizations on trade, finance and development.  He is the author of ten books and over 100 articles and monographs on these subjects. His most recent books include Ending Global Poverty: Four Women’s Noble Conspiracy (2020), Aid Trade and Development: The Future of Globalization (2022) and Greek Foreign Trade and Finance: The Mixed Blessings of Economic Dependence (2025). Now mostly retired, he splits his time between Lusby on the Chesapeake Bay and Rafina, on the coast east of Athens.
